The progress against hunger of recent decades has been one of the most encouraging trends in a world that sometimes seems to lack much hope.

To end hunger altogether, we must be able to produce enough nutritious food to meet everyone’s needs. That is hardly a revelation, but it has sometimes received less attention than warranted.

The focus has often been on other essentials, such as ensuring that there is enough food in places where it’s needed and that people can afford to buy the food they need.
