Offering of Letters 2019
On Tuesday, June 11, more than 350 advocates in town for Bread for the World’s Advocacy Summit visited 200 congressional offices urging them to co-sponsor and pass the Global Nutrition Resolution (H.Res.189/Collins-Coons Resolution).
The bipartisan resolution recognizes the progress made against malnutrition due to strong U.S. leadership, but that more needs to be done.
Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Chris Coons (D-Del.) are expected to introduce a similar version of H.Res.189 in the Senate.
Yemen remains the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. The United Nations reports that half of the population is already facing near-famine conditions and is entirely reliant on aid for survival. At least 400,000 children younger than age 5 are at risk of death from malnutrition.
Bread is following legislation pending in Congress regarding the sale of arms to the Saudi-Emirati coalition.
