Budget & Appropriations

Congress passed a continuing resolution on Dec. 21 that keeps the government funded through Jan. 19. Lawmakers now have less than two weeks to agree on the dollar amounts necessary to fund the government through Sept. 30. At stake is funding for veterans, women and children’s nutrition, and international humanitarian and development programs.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 passed in December. The bill is projected to add at least $1.5 trillion to the deficit. Historically, large tax cuts often lead to detrimental cuts to programs like SNAP, humanitarian and development assistance, and other key programs that protect people experiencing hunger.
