Tell Congress to Support Mothers and Pass the Global Nutrition Resolution | Bread for the World

Tell Congress to Support Mothers

When it comes to ensuring children have the nutrition they need to survive and thrive, mothers are tenacious. When women control income, they prioritize feeding their children. Likewise, when food is scarce, they are the first to skip a meal. And when nutrition programs are available, they seek help.

Global nutrition programs work and have saved millions of lives. Still, nearly 1 in 4 children are stunted. Now, it is time to scale up our efforts to reach more mothers and pregnant women so that vulnerable infants and young children get the best start to life.

Add your name to the petition below and send a clear message to Congress that while progress has been made against malnutrition, they must do more. During this season in which we honor and show our gratitude for those who nurtured us, let's support mothers everywhere by investing in the global nutrition programs that are making a difference.

Petitions will be delivered to members of Congress on June 11, as part of Bread for the World's Advocacy Summit in Washington D.C.

Dear Member of Congress,

As people of faith, we are called to stand with people who live with hunger and poverty by speaking out in support of the Global Nutrition Resolution (H. Res. 189). The resolution recognizes the importance of continued U.S. leadership to accelerate global progress against maternal and child malnutrition. Remembering our own mothers and mother figures, we urge you to support mothers everywhere who care for children by cosponsoring and passing this resolution.

Almost half of all child deaths worldwide are linked to malnutrition. Children who survive remain at high risk of irreversible stunting, which affects their physical and cognitive development. For 149 million children under the age of 5, stunting is a life sentence.

The resolution celebrates the strong bipartisan commitment to the issue and the progress that has been made, but to eliminate malnutrition we must do more. Increasing access to nutritious food and vitamins, supporting breastfeeding, and ensuring safe drinking water and sanitation will enable more children to grow and reach their full potential.

We all want what is best for our children, no matter where we live. In honor of mothers everywhere, we urge you to invest in nutrition and in a better tomorrow.
