The farm bill can help put the United States on track to ending food insecurity and hunger in our country and save millions of lives overseas. To do so, it must be designed with strong and resilient food systems and good nutrition as its top priorities.
In 2018, Congress is working to review and renew farm bill programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and international food aid programs. The House is expected to vote on H.R.2 (the farm bill), on Friday, May 18. The bill imposes stricter work requirements, and benefit and eligibility cuts, in the name of getting SNAP recipients back to work. These changes would take 2 million people off the program and cause more than 200,000 children to lose access to free school meals.
Tell your members of Congress to write a farm bill that protects and strengthens domestic nutrition programs and fully funds and continues to improve our international food aid programs.
