The farm bill can help put the United States on track to ending food insecurity and hunger in our country and save millions of lives overseas. To do so, it must be designed with strong and resilient food systems and good nutrition as its top priorities.
Back in June, both the House and Senate passed their respective versions of the farm bill. The House version (H.R.2) imposes strict work requirements on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The Senate version (S.3042) protects and strengthens domestic nutrition programs and fully funds and continues to improve our international food aid programs.
The House and the Senate have now reached a bipartisan farm bill compromise. The compromise bill rejects harmful cuts and changes to SNAP while fully funding and improving international food aid programs. We urge Congress to support and pass a strong bipartisan farm bill that protects SNAP, increases access to nutritious food, while also providing funding for international food aid programs.
