Congress is considering tax legislation that provides $1 trillion in tax cuts, mostly to people earning high incomes. Without adequate revenue, those tax cuts will be paid for by spending cuts to vital safety-net programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, and international humanitarian and development assistance. In total, spending cuts to lifesaving programs could be as much as $2 trillion.
The tax code should not make people fall deeper into hunger and poverty.
