According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, hunger is a primary reason, among others, families from Central America’s Northern Triangle—Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras—are forced to seek asylum in the United States.
Bread for the World believes immigration is a hunger issue. Any policy approach to immigration must address hunger issues on both sides of the border while protecting family unity and the right to seek asylum.
Right now, Congress is working on year-end spending bills. Current border enforement funding is nearly 17 times more than aid support for Central America.
Tell Congress to prioritize funding for programs that address the root causes of migration from Central America instead of focusing solely on border enforcement, by passing a robust Foreign Affairs spending bill. Your advocacy is critical to helping ensure immigrants and asylum seekers receive the respect and dignity they deserve.
Tip: Personalized emails have the most impact. Add a note explaining why hunger is important to you.
